Make the new look like the old. This was the challenge to one of the most recognizable structures in Ohio, the Ohio State University Stadium originally built in 1922. The challenge was met by using just the right mixture of concrete ingredients, including aggregates, sands, cement and form structures.

The concrete mix utilized a combination of white and gray cements; a very light colored Ohio limestone aggregate and special Ohio limestone sand. All of the exterior precast concrete surfaces were given a light sandblast finish to make the panels appear "weathered." This look imitated the original cast in place concrete that had been exposed for years to natural etching by acid rain.

In addition to the sand blast finish on the majority of the precast concrete panel surfaces, the precast panels surrounding the entry portals are a bush hammered" finish to match the same finish on the "old" part of the stadium.

All of the architectural precast concrete panels totally enclose the new perimeter bay and upper "C" deck seating. These panels are curved and follow the original shape of the stadium.

This project was an engineering challenge that was met with ingenuity and innovation.
