Due to Oakland University’s increasing enrollment in recent years and an already desperate parking situation, a new 600 car parking structure was urgently needed. However, due to extremely limited space on the university’s main campus property, this parking deck had to be specially designed to sit on a drastic slope.

Since the deck was constructed on a piece of land that has such a radical slope to it, the combination of cast-in-place concrete (C.I.P) and precast/prestressed concrete was needed. Hollowcore Inc. combined their talents with Concrete Technology Inc. (CTI) and successfully provided superior precast products in the short amount of time allocated to erect this structure.

Technical Notes:
One corner of the parking deck was erected using C.I.P concrete, which acted as a retaining wall to hold back the soil that was cut. The balance of the 2 story deck was comprised of precast / prestressed concrete including an exterior cladding that was made from buff coloured precast spandrel panels that had brick cast integrally into each panel.
